1) Job Title: Part-time Development Consultant

Tupelo Press is currently seeking a paid, part-time Development Consultant.
The development consultant will work with the senior staff of Tupelo Press for a period of three-to-four months to advise on, and provide guidance and support toward, fundraising, strategic planning, and organizational development. Specifically, the consultant will assist in developing and implementing fundraising plans, identifying potential donors, and crafting compelling fundraising proposals. Evidence of expertise and a history of success in the nonprofit publishing field a must. We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills, strong analytical skills, and strong project management stills. We’re especially interested in candidates who are bursting with creative ideas and who are unafraid to try new approaches. We’re equally interested in improving upon our grass roots and private, high net worth individual support for our publishing programs, plus generating interest and enthusiasm for our educational outreach, our 30/30 poetry incubator/donative program, and our writing residency programs at “Gentle House” on the Olympic Peninsula in Port Angeles, WA.

2. Job Title: Associate Publisher

Tupelo Press is currently seeking a paid, full-time Associate Publisher
Over time, the successful candidate will assist the Publisher in all of the Publisher’s duties, as listed below, with a view toward gaining the necessary training and experience to take over as Publisher of Tupelo Press within two-to-four years. The ideal candidate is a highly self-motivated and passionate individual who possesses considerable nonprofit publishing experience, who is a smart and engaging manager, who is bursting with creative ideas, who brings a diverse background to bear, and who possesses both demonstrable ambition and the skills to succeed. This is a full-time, in-person position, based in Western Massachusetts that requires flexibility to work both at home and in the North Adams office, and pays a salary commensurate with industry standards. At Tupelo Press, the Publisher serves as the chief executive officer of the Press. The Publisher takes charge of all business, administrative, schedule, staffing and fundraising areas of the enterprise, and works closely with the Board of Directors in planning, managing and executing the work of the Press. As of 2025, the Publisher can be expected to meet and, if possible, enlarge an annual income goal of around $450,000+. The Publisher serves ex officio on the Board of Directors, subject to the duties, and obligations set forth in the Board Job Description.
In addition, the Publisher:
· Sets annual income and expense goals and an annual budget with the Board and its committees and take overall responsibility for planning and supervising their achievement.
· Maintains relationships with the Press’ authors, including negotiating and fulfilling publishing contracts, and makes editorial decisions in tandem with the Editor in Chief.
· Directs, manages and supervises the efforts of the professional and volunteer staff in achieving current and long term artistic and operating goals.
· Engages in close collaboration with the Board of Directors on all aspects of the Press’ annual and long-range plans as to their formulation and execution. Set meeting dates and agendas, and reports on all relevant matters to the board.
· Administers, monitors and coordinates the Press’s income and expense budgets, develop cash-flow projections, reconciled these on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis with the finance committee.
· Directs development and grant-writing research and fulfillment.
· Coordinates the Press’s relationship with local, state and national granting agencies.
· Directs and coordinates the Press’s participation in the annual AWP convention and other bookfairs.
· Participates in and coordinates the ongoing preservation of relationships with publishing industry leaders, authors, funders, donors, civic leaders, and others in the nonprofit sector.
· Serves as a primary spokesperson for Tupelo Press locally, regionally and nationally, working with marketing and public relations staff to develop and to execute strategies for visibility and external communications.
· Participates as an active member of Board and staff committees, and works to articulate a future vision for the Press and to put into place the goals, skills and plans to make that vision a reality.
· Directs a planning process for the future, with emphasis on development of new programs in poetry education and outreach.
· Plays a leadership role in respect of Tupelo’s relationships with its distributor and marketing teams at the University of Chicago Press.
